There was this one time I thought I went vegan

It started off as a few days every so often. Then maybe only after yoga class, but weekends were always fare game. I won’t try to catch you up on all the wonderful details of how I actually got here today. The point is, is that we are here. We have choices. I recently married and moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Orange County, California in the middle of an economic and political race war. Oh yea. and a pandemic. Perhaps I am experiencing some post traumatic shock syndrome pertaining to how many life changing events a woman can endure in the shortest amount of time. Not to mention I was laid off from the one job I actually felt like was going to be my career. Deep breath. I can’t think of a time where I actually said all of that out-loud. (yes, typing counts)

In short, I have lost control over a few things in my life. I have been feeling overweight, nauseous and insecure. I mean, since we are being honest, I should just be honest. I often wonder how I deserve such a perfect wife. No really, she is extremely perfect. We are both big time food people. I was born this way. I even went to college to pursue something that had to do with food, feeling better and making soulful connections. I am still working out the details on how that plan goes. We dance, we eat, we love to drink, I cook, she helps. I research recipes, I read food blogs. I travel to destinations just to learn the culture through the origin of taste and local flavors. I’m invested to say the very least. I am completely obsessed with all thing’s food.

Ok, moving on to where we are now. Last week we made our last trip from Atlanta, to our new home in Orange County. (the perfect wife lived here so I relocated. Of course!) We had been eating some pretty reckless things while traveling back and forth and packing and relocating. Needless to say, our systems took a toll and I for one was feeling crappy and looking even worse. In my opinion, the perfect wife will not agree with me, Hints. I. E. Perfect. A cleanse was needed to get the filth out. Everyone know that meat is disgusting. We eat it, we like it, we grill it, smoke it and enjoy it. However, I thought to myself. If I can remove meat and dairy along with all processed foods for 5 days our systems will be cleaner than when we started. Yes, this was my idea. Yes, she loved it and took me shopping to get everything I needed to embark on this adventure our first week together in our new home across the country.

The Plan.

Peel fresh ginger and blend it with lemon juice. Bring it to a boil. Seep some fresh mint and drink it 3 times a day. (once 30 mins prior to every meal) I made this in the morning and just heated it when I was ready the rest of the day.

For our meals the next 5 days we only ate clean. Only fruits and vegetables. Today is the last day and my skin is freaking radiant! I haven’t had the urge to vomit nor have I had heartburn, and did I mention that my skin is glowing! We haven’t been doing many carbs, maybe just a little brown basmati rice here and there, I am hoping that one yoga opens up June 20th that will also get me in the game. Ok, now for the plot twist.

Eating is a pleasure for me. It is also a pleasure for my wife. yes, it was love at first tater tot. Again, another blog, for another day. We eat like nobody’s business and I am concerned how this vegan thing is going to go for her. I make all the meals, because she doesn’t crave variety like I do. Also, who wouldn’t want the perfect wife celebrating something you do multiple times a day. EXACTLY. We like to go out to eat like normal couples except we incorporate a few more steps.

Researching the restaurant followed by a cross reference with social media and various blogs. Make sure we see photos and read reviews about best dishes. I am concerned that a bit of this experience will be lost between us. It’s one of my favorite things and part of our first memories. I will keep you posted, but in the meantime, here is a catch up of what I cooked this week.
